What Would You Do as a Homeless Czar (Response)

It takes a village to solve homelessness

I recently attended a couple of United to End Homelessness classes (put on by United Way) and took part in the Everyone Counts point-in-time count in January (which provides data to government agencies about our homeless neighbors).

I am also a monthly volunteer at Sunday Supper in Tustin (which provides a weekly hot meal for anyone who needs it). All of these activities have helped me better understand the challenges that face our neighbors who find themselves, often because of circumstances beyond their control, in a homeless situation

As a homelessness czar, I would partner with United to End Homelessness to continue educating our community about homelessness, to provide rapid rehousing for those who have recently lost their housing and need temporary shelter, and to provide long-term supportive housing for those who are most in need.

Homelessness is a complicated issue that will “take a village” to solve, hopefully in a compassionate, humanitarian way.
